• Physical Therapist Responsibilities (South Dakota Practice Act 36-10-35.8. Limitation of supervision–Registration of assistants–Notification of termination–Delegation of responsibility; South Dakota Practice Act 36-10-35.9. Standards of supervision)
  • Supervise no more than 2 full-time physical therapist assistants at one time
  • Register with the Board of Examiners the name and address of physical therapist assistants at least 15 days prior to starting supervision
  • Notify the Board of Examiners in writing within 10 days of terminating supervision
  • May delegate supervision to another physical therapy for a maximum of 30 days
  • Supervision visits include:
    • Complete patient assessment
    • Review of the plan of care (revisions or discharge if needed)
    • Assessment and recommendation for outside resources

• Physical Therapist Assistant Supervision (South Dakota Practice Act 36-10-35.9. Standards of supervision)
  • In-person or accessible by telecommunications at all times
  • Minimum of every 5 visits by PTA or every 30 calendar days (whichever occurs first) a joint visit or treatment with supervising physical therapist needs to be completed
    • Includes documented conference

  • Final scheduled visit must be made with a physical therapist
