Biennial Renewal

Supervision & Delegation of Duties
- Physical Therapist (PT) may supervise maximum of 3 assistive personnel. (R4-24-303 Patient Care Management)
- 1 assistive personnel must be a physical therapist assistant (PTA) when supervising 3 assistive personnel.
- Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Supervision (A.R.S. §32-2043. Supervision: Patient Care Management; Supervision of Assistive Personnel, Patient Care Management & Documentation Requirements; 4 A.A.C. 24 R4-24-303 Patient Care Management)
- General Supervision
- PT must respond to PTA within 15 minutes
- PT must be available to go to a location on the same day services provided by a PTA if needed
- PT must verify PTA’s qualifications
- For Each Patient on Each Date of Service, the supervising PT must:
- Document the rationale for the use of PTAs and other assistive personnel based on patient acuity and treatment plan
- Co-signature of supervising PT not required if PT verifies PTA qualifications and documents use of PTA
- PT must perform a reevaluation and each therapeutic intervention on the day of the reevaluation every 4th treatment visit or every 30 days (whichever occurs first)
- Physical Therapy Aide & Other Assistive Personnel (A.R.S. §32-2043. Supervision: Patient Care Management; Supervision of Assistive Personnel, Patient Care Management & Documentation Requirements)
- On-Site Supervision by Licensed PT
- PT Aide or Other Assistive Personnel may perform routine tasks when PT is present in the facility
- PT must verify qualifications
- PT must co-sign documentation
Direct Access
Physical therapist must refer the patient to an appropriate healthcare professional if concerns and/or beyond scope of practice. (A.R.S §32-2041. Lawful Practice)
Evaluation/Reevaluation
- Reevaluation (4 A.A.C. 24 R4-24-304 Adequate Patient Records)
- Perform when a patient does not demonstrate expected progress, a change of plan of care needed, or as required for physical therapy assistant (PTA) supervision
- Discharge Documentation (A.R.S. §32-2043. Supervision: Patient Care Management)
- Include patient’s response to intervention at the time of discharge

Arizona Labor Laws
- Overtime
