Annual Renewal
- 15 hours of Continuing Education (South Dakota Administrative Rule 20:66:03:01. Continuing education hours–15 hour)
Physical Therapy Compact
Supervision & Delegation of Duties
- Physical Therapist Responsibilities (South Dakota Practice Act 36-10-35.8. Limitation of supervision–Registration of assistants–Notification of termination–Delegation of responsibility; South Dakota Practice Act 36-10-35.9. Standards of supervision)
- Supervise no more than 2 full-time physical therapist assistants at one time
- Register with the Board of Examiners the name and address of physical therapist assistants at least 15 days prior to starting supervision
- Notify the Board of Examiners in writing within 10 days of terminating supervision
- May delegate supervision to another physical therapy for a maximum of 30 days
- Supervision visits include:
- Complete patient assessment
- Review of the plan of care (revisions or discharge if needed)
- Assessment and recommendation for outside resources
- Physical Therapist Assistant Supervision (South Dakota Practice Act 36-10-35.9. Standards of supervision)
- In-person or accessible by telecommunications at all times
- Minimum of every 5 visits by PTA or every 30 calendar days (whichever occurs first) a joint visit or treatment with supervising physical therapist needs to be completed
- Includes documented conference

Evaluation/Reevaluation
- Reevaluation (South Dakota Practice Act 36-10-35.7. Approved tasks for physical therapist assistant–Exclusions)
- Review in a timely manner
- Revise when indicated
- Discharge (South Dakota Practice Act 36-10-35.9. Standards of supervision)
- Final scheduled visit must be made with a physical therapist
